  • Dead Rising Movie Gets A Director -- Leprechaun's Zach Lipovsky

The upcoming Dead Rising movie--which will skip a theatrical release in favor of debuting on Sony's Crackle streaming service--now has a director. Leprechaun: Origins director Zach Lipovsky is leading project, according to a report from Hollywood news site The Wrap.
Lipovsky was a contestant on Steven Spielberg and Mark Burnett's 2007 reality TV show On the Lot, which saw budding filmmakers compete for a development deal. He made it to the final three.
The Dead Rising movie will become the first project created by Legendary Digital Media, the offshoot of Warcraft and Godzilla studio Legendary Pictures. Following its debut on Crackle, the film will be available through video-on-demand services, DVD/Blu-ray, and TV.
Though there's no word yet on a cast for the Dead Rising movie, but we know that Transformers franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura will serve as executive producer on the film. Tim Carter will write the script alongside Tomas Harlan for Contradiction Films, which recently produced the Mortal Kombat Legacy digital series.
No release date has been announced for the Dead Rising movie. The most recent entry in the core Dead Rising series was Xbox One launch title Dead Rising 3. The game comes to PC on September 5.
The Dead Rising movie is one of many video game movies currently in development. Ubisoft has a total of six films in the pipeline, including movies based on Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, and Splinter Cell. Meanwhile, Sony is making a Last of Us movie, Konami is moving forward on a film based on Metal Gear Solid, Blizzard Entertainment has its Warcraft movie, and an Angry Birds film is scheduled for 2016. And just this week, the next Resident Evil movie was delayed because lead actress Milla Jovovich is having a baby.
