  • Minecraft Getting Story-Driven Series from Telltale Games

Mojang and Telltale Games today announced "Minecraft: Story Mode -- A Telltale Games Series." It's a brand new episodic series based on Minecraft, launching in 2015 for PC, console, and mobiles.
Set in the world of Mojang's uber-popular sandbox game Minecraft, Story Mode will be developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang, itself a subsidiary of Microsoft.
The game will tell an original story that's "driven by player choice." Story Mode is not a Minecraft expansion, but instead a standalone game coming to PC, console, and mobile devices next year.
"Telltale's game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation," Telltale said.

In terms of visuals, Story Mode won't "won't look exactly like Minecraft," Mojang said in possibly the best press release ever. "But it will feel authentic in its own special way."
We'll have more details on Story Mode as they become available.
Telltale is certainly keeping busy. In addition to Story Mode, the San Rafael, Calif.-based developer is working on its debut seasons of its Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands franchises, as well as a third season of The Walking Dead.
Xbox maker Microsoft acquired Mojang and the Minecraft franchise in September for $2.5 billion. As part of the deal, Minecraft creator and Mojang founder Markus "Notch" Persson exited the company.
