Does anyone know of any ways of reducing your ping?
On RTCW my ping always seems to be well above 200, whilst for other players it's only 50 or less.
What can I do to get a better ping?
Any hints and/or links to articles on the net, would be greatly appreciated.

    Well [BiA]Wonderboy,

The best thing you can do is move yo America (USA) that's the place where the server is.
We all (europe) have the same problem there is nothing to do about it brother.

Even if your name is Wonderboy (joke)
Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow.
Don't walk behind me, I may not lead.
Walk beside me and just be my friend.

I have found that high ping times are usually a combination of your PC specification and the speed at which you connect to your ISP.

I recently went from a ping of 200+ms (for US servers) to an average of 50ms (<30ms for European based servers, and about 120-140 for US servers). I attributed this to the following: -

                  - I upgraded my cable connection to my ISP to 2048kb/256kb (2mb Service )
                  - I changed out my motherboard and upped the CPU to an AMD Athlon 2100XP+ (Old CPU was a 1.4 Athlon)
                  - Swapped my 512Mb of 133Mhz SDRAM for 512Mb of PC2700(333Mhz) DDR memory

I also changed my graphics board from an ATI Radeon 7000 chipset to an nVidia GEForce4 based chipset. Whilst not a major influencer on the ping time, it certainly made the gameplay much more enjoyable.

                  My £0.02 worth!

                    Thanks everyone.

I do tend to play more on HP2 than anyother server. Let me rephrase that slightly, if I'm honest, I probably only ever play on HP2.

I beginning to think that my high ping is down to
                    1) my aging pc,
                    2) the unremarkable graphics card and, on the last couple of times I've played,
                    3) not being aware that my kids are downloading stuff from Kazaa

I guess I'll just have to
                    a) live with it for the moment
                    b) upgrade my system, and possibly
                    c) consider selling my kids to fund the upgrade

your ping and computer are directly proportion
you can have a fast connection but a weak comp with a slow video card will cause you to lag like crazy
