  • Biggest Games at Gamescom 2015

Do you want to know all the latest news on the biggest games at Gamescom 2015?

This year's Gamescom has come and gone, and with it came an enormous amount of news on some of the biggest upcoming games. So in case you missed it, here's a gallery to catch up on everything that happened!

Call of Duty: Black Ops III

New Call of Duty: Black Ops III details revealed that the game will be offering even more multiplayer options than previous games in the series. You can now vote to ban specific weapons, abilities, attachments and scorestreaks in a match. Furthermore, the game will feature a new and improved spectator mode, which provides better tools and equipment widgets for eSports commentating opportunities.

    Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Mirror's Edge Catalyst gameplay was finally revealed, and it showed protagonist Faith engaging in all sorts of parkour-based platforming across the game's dystopian city setting. The game's combat focuses heavily on the momentum Faith builds as she runs along walls and barrels into enemies. The faster you are, the worse off they'll be when you crash into them with a well-placed kick to their face. Additionally, we found out that there are puzzle platforming elements in the game that challenge you to build the best possible parkour route in order to solve them.

    Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

During Microsoft's Gamescom press conference, Ubisoft announced a playable German counter-terrorism unit in Rainbow Six Siege with four distinct soldiers. We also got details of the game's in-depth spectator mode, which will be a handy feature for those looking to get a more detailed look at matches in this incredibly tense tactical first-person shooter.

    Mafia III

After months of rumors, Mafia III was officially revealed. Set in 1960s New Orleans, the game puts you in control of Lincoln Clay, an orphaned Vietnam War veteran who is desperately looking for a family. Returning here is the classic organized crime drama that the series is known for, but underlying it this time around is a fully open world touched by the racial issues and political climate of the turbulent '60s.

    Scalebound

Making good on its E3 promise, Microsoft finally debuted gameplay of Platinum Games' upcoming Xbox One-exclusive. The game offers the same over-the-top combat seen in its developers' previous outings, however, it appears to play more like an action-RPG. Featuring the ability to command your dragon, loads of character/dragon customization, and a 4-player co-operative mode, Scalebound looks like one of the most ambitious projects that Platinum Games has worked on.

    Fallout 4

New details for Fallout 4 were unveiled at Gamescom during closed-door demonstrations. What we saw displayed a complex array of leveling options, larger-scale battles between the game's different factions, and precise shooting mechanics that reduce the clunkiness seen in previous Fallout entries.

    Crackdown 3

This year's Microsoft Gamescom press conference featured debut gameplay from Crackdown 3, and the game looks absolutely over-the-top. With 100% fully destructible environments that let you topple skyscrapers into pieces, this game has the potential to be by far one of the most explosive experiences around. But it's worth noting that this destructibility will be restricted to the game's multiplayer mode, which Microsoft promises that you'll get to try in summer 2016. Whether that means a beta test or something else remains unclear.

    Halo 5: Guardians

During its Gamescom press conference, Microsoft showed new esports-focused features for Halo 5: Guardians's multiplayer. Their first reveal came in the form of a new map called Coliseum, which is a symmetrical two-base arena specifically built for a wide variety of fast-paced multiplayer modes. Second, Microsoft announced the Halo World Championship, an official tournament with a $1 million prize pool.

    Final Fantasy XV

A new cinematic trailer shown during Gamescom shined light on some historical details of Final Fantasy's XV's narrative, and we learned even more during the game's "Active Time Report" livestream. According to game director Hajime Tabata, the plot will involve protagonist Prince Noctis on a journey to set things right after a political conflict puts his kingdom in jeopardy. Final Fantasy XV is set to release sometime in 2016.

    Destiny: The Taken king

Destiny's new expansion, The Taken King, got a plethora of announcements at this year's Gamescom. The news mostly consists of refinements and new options for players, such as removing legendary armor upgrades, a mercy rule that lets your team end lopsided Crucible matches early, and a massively overhauled leveling system that's more reliant on killing enemies and completing bounties. It was also announced that newcomers looking to jump right into the upcoming expansion can do so via a level boost.

    Quantum Break

Brand new gameplay was shown of Quantum Break during Microsoft's Gamescom press conference, which gave us an exciting new glimpse at the time-manipulating mechanics featured in this upcoming third-person shooter. Microsoft also showed a trailer for the live-action TV series that will accompany the game's story; actor Shawn Ashmore (X-Men, The Following) takes on the role of protagonist Jack Joyce, who had previously been played by stand-in actor Sean Durrie.

    Halo Wars 2

Microsoft's Gamescom press conference saw the world premiere of Halo Wars 2, which will be made by Total War series developer Creative Assembly. For the uninitiated, Halo Wars is a spin-off series that focuses on tense real-time strategy gameplay as opposed to the first-person shooting action that the mainline Halo series games are known for.

    Star Wars Battlefront

Electronic Art's Gamescom press conference gave us a trailer of Star Wars Battlefront's Fighter Squadron mode: an intense 20v20 multiplayer spaceship battle mode that recreates the chaotic thrills of the aerial dogfights in the Star Wars universe. However, the catch is that only 10 players are active on each side with the rest under AI control.

    Street Fighter V

Street Fighter V's showing at Gamescom this year further cemented Capcom's initiative to reinvent the series in new and exciting ways. Previous Street Fighters only subtly updated how the series' trademark characters played from version to version, but this sequel will introduce some massive playstyle shifts. For instance, Vega, a fighter who has been predominantly a charge character, has been changed completely to utilize quarter-circles.

    Rise of the Tomb Raider

Rise of the Tomb Raider will bring a brutal new edge to the series, giving protagonist Lara Croft even more combat options than ever before. New footage shown at Microsoft's Gamescom press conference featured lots of gameplay improvisation, including more stealth options, on-the-fly tool crafting, and even the ability to go into combat situation with guns blazing like a Hollywood action hero.

    Assassin's Creed Syndicate

During Gamescom, we finally got to see gameplay of Evie Frye, the second protagonist in the upcoming Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Compared to her twin brother, she is much more calculated and stealthy in her approach. The mission we saw revealed that she has a variety of unique abilities, such as advanced knife throwing skills, and a chameleon-like cloaking ability.

    Lego Dimensions

Lego Dimensions, the newest contender in the toys-to-life games market, just added the Ghostbusters into its ever-expanding multiverse roster of IPs. Currently, the game's includes DC Comics, Back to the Future, Portal 2, The Simpsons, The Lord of the Rings Scooby-Doo, Doctor Who, and Jurassic World.

    Dark Souls III

After a too-short reveal at E3, Gamescom finally gave us our first look at Dark Souls III's gameplay. The game maintains its signature, dark fantasy tone, but the gameplay has seen some serious refinement. In addition, the series will introduce new offensive Arts, which are specific skills that can be performed with all the game's unique weapon types.

The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes

Nintendo never has a huge presence at the Gamescom, but the company did finally announce a release date for The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes--October 23. The co-operative Zelda adventure introduces a new costume mechanic to the franchise, where Link's abilities can be augmented and increased by donning different outfits.

    Cities: Skylines - After Dark

Cities: Skylines also had something to get excited about at Gamescom, with the game's new expansion--After Dark--officially announced. The expansion's primary new feature is the addition of a day/night cycle, but there will also be other features, such as leisure specialization for commercial areas, expanded city services, and new transportation options. The game is confirmed to release on consoles.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Thanks to a Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Gamescom demonstration, we got new details on the Mother Base building mechanics in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. While you can fortify your own Mother Base by acquiring various weapons on the field during missions, you'll occasionally also have to defend it. This is made possible via the FOB system, which is an optional online component of the game where other players can invade your base to steal your resources while you're out on a mission.

    Guitar Hero Live

As a part of Gamescom, 16 new songs were confirmed for Guitar Hero Live, which include songs like Megadeth's "Hangar 18," King of Leon's "Sex on Fire," and MGMT's "Time to Pretend." Aspiring singers can also join in with the announced inclusion of vocals as well.

    FIFA 16

Electronic Arts released details during Gamescom about FIFA 16's FUT draft, which is a new mode within Ultimate Team where you select an entire team based on pre-selected options for each position. Additionally, we learned the game's career mode will get an assortment of exciting upgrades, such as tweaked Team defenses, improvements to smart passes, new celebrations, and a new training mode that upgrades younger, less experienced players.

    Battlefield Hardline: Robbery

Electronic Arts announced Battlefield: Hardline's second expansion, which will bring a brand new robbery-themed multiplayer mode called Squad Heist. As an homage to Battlefield 4's Squad Rush, this mode will combine the series' distinctive first-person shooting action with the allure of robbing banks and international smuggling rings. In addition to this new mode, the expansion will also include new maps, weapons, gadgets, and vehicles to cause all sorts of trouble with.
