  • Nintendo 2DS Price Drop Coming Soon

Nintendo has announced a price cut for its entry-level gaming system, the Nintendo 2DS. Effective August 30, the system will sell for $100, down from its current price of $130.
Racing game Mario Kart 7 is currently bundled with 2DS systems, and that's not changing despite the price drop. Bundles will still come with a free digital copy of the 2011 racing game, Nintendo confirmed.
"The new lower-priced hardware combined with the strong lineup of new games launching this year and arguably the best library of games in this generation makes it a great time to be a Nintendo fan," Nintendo marketing executive Scott Moffitt said in a statement.
The Nintendo 2DS was released in October 2013. It plays almost the entire library of Nintendo 3DS games, but of course without the 3D effect. The system's standout feature is its design. Unlike past models, this one does not have any hinges.
Nintendo says this "durable construction" makes it well-suited for younger players.
Nintendo has not announced how many Nintendo 2DS units it's sold since launch. But the entire Nintendo 3DS family--which includes Nintendo 2DS--has sold more than 53 million units worldwide as of June 30.
