    The New (and Old) Mutants

The first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse gave us an exciting glimpse of the various characters we can expect to see in the latest entry in the franchise. From returning characters to new ones entirely, there was a lot to see during the trailer's short two-and-a-half-minute runtime. Join us as we show you each and every character we spotted!

    Apocalypse

The film's titular antagonist, Apocalypse, stands front-and-center in the new trailer. As the possible "first mutant," his power is beyond anything we've seen from mutants in previous films. His plan is to eliminate the human race in order to create and lead a new world for mutants only.

    Professor Xavier

Professor Xavier, founder of the X-Men, is back as one of the film's protagonists. He'll be leading the charge against Apocalypse (apparently with the help of Mystique once again) and an all-new incarnation of the X-Men. The first trailer still has the Professor sporting a full head of hair, however, a later shot confirmed that he'll sport his iconic bald-headed appearance again at some point in the film's story.

    Mystique

The veteran shapeshifting mutant Mystique is once again taking on her human appearance, as opposed to her natural blue skinned form. It's also worth noting that she seems to have made amends with Professor Xavier.

    Jean Grey

Thanks to the revised universe established at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Jean Grey is back. The first trailer depicts a younger version of her suffering from haunting visions of a world brought to ruin by Apocalypse.

    Archangel

X-Men: The Last Stand's Angel returns in this latest film, albeit in a new form entirely. Now known as Archangel, he acts as one of the Four Horseman, a group of mutants that Apocalypse has imbued with immense power. Like his comic book incarnation, Archangel has the ability to launch bladed feathers from his angelic wings.

    Magneto

The X-Men's longstanding archenemy Magneto has returned, but his role in the film's plot has changed. Instead of being the primary antagonist this time around, he'll be working as one of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen to assist in his plot to destroy humanity.

    Nightcrawler

A much younger version of Nightcrawler pops up in the first trailer. While not much is seen of him, it looks like he's being brought in to join the newest incarnation of the X-Men. Previously, Nightcrawler only appeared during X2: X-Men United, where he was being used by Colonel William Stryker to assassinate the President of the United States.

    Psylocke

The classic X-Men character Psylocke will finally make her film debut in X-Men: Apocalypse. Unfortunately, we only got to see one quick shot of her in the trailer that shows that shows she's going to be one of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen.

    Quicksilver

It's no surprise that Quicksilver is returning in X-Men: Apocalypse after his well-received slow-motion scene from Days of Future Past. The new trailer shows off more of his high-speed antics with a quick shot that we're thinking could be the iconic scene's follow-up. We're hoping it'll top it.

    Cyclops

A younger Cyclops can be seen in the trailer, and if the above image is any indication, it doesn't look like he has a handle on his mutant powers just yet. Cyclops has appeared in nearly every single X-Men film in some shape or other, either as a primary member of the team or as a child before having met Professor Xavier. He was notoriously killed off by Jean Grey in the third film, but that death has since been unwritten by the revised universe that went into effect at the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

    Jubilee

Jubilee, a mutant with the ability to generate pyrotechnic energy plasmoids, will finally be getting her own dedicated role as a character in the new film. She previously only had appearances in the first two X-Men films as a background character. Currently, it's unclear what Jubilee's role will be in the film will be exactly.

    Havok

Havok (a.k.a Alex Summers) makes a brief appearance in the trailer alongside Professor Xavier and others. He was previously a core member of the first iteration of the X-Men in First Class but only had a small role as a supporting character in Days of Future Past. Hopefully, we'll get to see more of him this time around. Maybe some interactions with his brother, Cyclops?

    Beast

Hank McCoy (a.k.a Beast) shows up few times throughout the trailer, and he looks to have joined the new iteration of the X-Men lead by Mystique. Film series fans will remember Beast from X-Men: The Last Stand and his subsequent appearances in both First Class and Days of Future Past.

    Storm

A younger version of Storm appeared in the trailer, however, it looks like she's working as one of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen. This is unfortunate news for fans who widely know Storm for her role as a primary member of the X-Men in the first three films and Days of Future Past. Regardless, the addition of her mohawk is a sweet new look that's bound to satisfy fans of the X-Men comic books during the '80s.

    Bonus: Moira

Even though she isn't a mutant, it's worth mentioning that Moira McTaggert also shows up in the trailer. She originally appeared in X-Men: First Class as a CIA agent working with Professor Xavier to foil the evil plot of the infamous Hell Fire Club. However, at the end of that film, her memories of the operation were wiped by the Professor.
