  • Star Wars: Rogue One's Aliens Will Be More "Realistic" Than in The Force Awakens

Aliens and strange creatures have always played a big part in the Star Wars universe, and The Force Awakens was no different. In keeping with the decision on that film to use largely practical effects for its aliens, this year's standalone Star Wars movie Rogue One will use the same crew. Now creature effects supervisor Neal Scanlan has revealed a few details about what to expect from Rogue One's aliens.
Speaking to MTV, Scanlan said: "In the world of Force Awakens, there was a real mixture of all different kinds, very much like the original Cantina sequence. Working with Gareth [Edwards, the director] now on Rogue One, he sees these aliens as being much more part of the human [world]. They co-habitate, they work together and so it's pushed us very much to create characters that are more realistic."
"They move more realistically," Scanlan continued. "They're able to emote more than maybe the characters that we did for The Force Awakens. So they're a closer part of the storytelling. They're less of the world, and they're more of this group who have a mission, and play a part in that."
This week it was reported that Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation writer/director Christopher McQuarrie had been hired to perform a rewrite on Rogue One. McQuarrie is one of Hollywood's most in-demand script doctors, and according to a source for BMD, he "saved" the movie.
Star Wars: Rogue One will hit cinemas on December 16, 2016. It stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen.
