  • Dark Souls 3: How to Turn Into a Dragon

    Embrace Your Inner Dragon

Like its predecessors, Dark Souls III lets you transform into a dragon. However, the means of doing so is elaborate, requiring a set of secret items to activate. Luckily, we've compiled details of how to find these items so you can finally turn into the half-dragon, half-human hybrid you've always dreamed of becoming. Be wary; there are major spoilers ahead from later parts of the game.
Click ahead for a step-by-step process of how to transform into a dragon!

    The Dragon Torso

First, you need the Dragon Torso. To get it, travel to Irithyll Boreal Valley and make your way to the Irithyll Dungeon. Traverse the dungeon until you reach an area with a small, meditating Dragon statue holding the Dragon Torso.

To Get the Dragon Head, You Need the Path of the Dragon Emote

What you need next is the Dragon Head. To obtain it, you're going to have to get the Path of the Dragon emote, which is located in an area past the Consumed King. However, to get to this boss, you first need to defeat the Dancer of the Boreal Valley.

Getting the Path of the Dragon Emote

Once you've taken care of the Dancer, place the small basin she drops on the statue located behind her. This triggers a ladder to descend; climb it and take the path to the left to find the Consumed King.

    The Deceased Soldier

After defeating the Consumed King, go down the nearby hallway to find a large basin. Propped up against it is a fallen soldier holding the Path of the Dragon emote.

    The Archdragon Peak

With the Path of the Dragon emote acquired, head back to where you got the Dragon Torso. Use the emote here to teleport to a secret area known as the Archdragon Peak.

    The Ancient Wyvern

Once you've arrived at the Archdragon Peak, push forward until you reach a gate. Head past it to find a boss--the Ancient Wyvern. Defeat it to get the Dragon Head.

A Little Bonus: The Twinkling Dragon Torso

Before leaving Archdragon Peak, proceed past the Ancient Wyvern battleground to find a coffin at edge of a cliff. Use the Path of the Dragon emote here to obtain the Twinkling Dragon Torso Stone, an item that gives you an additional special move in dragon form.

    Hawkwood the Deserter

Return to the Firelink Shrine and talk to Hawkwood the Deserter until you've exhausted his dialogue. Leave the area and come back again to talk to the Blacksmith, who has been given a message from Hawkwood to relay to you. Meet him at Farron Keep in the location where you fought the Abyss Watchers.

    You Vs. Hawkwood

Meeting up with Hawkwood triggers a battle; he wants to take the items you've obtained "that make you dragon." Defeat him to receive the Twinkling Dragon Head Stone. It's worth noting that if you die against him, you'll lose your Twinkling Dragon Torso Stone. Luckily, you can still get both pieces back by defeating him.

    Dragon A Go Go Baby!

With all the necessary items in your inventory, take off your armor and use both the Dragon Torso and Dragon Head to transform into a dragon. Basic moves you can perform include: flame breath and a battle cry that increases your attack damage.
In addition, the Twinkling Dragon Head Stone gives you access to a larger flame breath attack from a giant dragon head. The Twinkling Torso allows you to use a slam attack with two large dragon claws.
It's important to note that your dragon form persists until you die. But don't worry, you can always transform into a dragon state again at any time as long as you use the Dragon Torso and Dragon Head.
