    The New Black

On Monday Microsoft revealed something you never knew you always wanted; custom Xbox One controller paint jobs.
Those who head to the Xbox Design Lab webpage will be able to assemble a new controller with about 8 million theoretical colour combinations. Users can adjust the colour of numerous parts, from the D-pad to the triggers, face buttons, thumbsticks, and the pad's body.
These controllers cost more than the standard black Xbox One pad, starting at $80, and for a little more users can add a custom nameplate at the base of the pad.
To offer some inspiration on how it's done (and how it shouldn't be done) GameSpot's editorial and video team present their own custom creations.

This blood-red controller, by Chris Watters, is resplendent with a modest "Fuckaroooooo" tag line.

This, by Alexa Ray Corriea, is based on the Kingdom Hearts 3 logo design.

This, by Evan Howard, is sports a lime green chassis and yellow hood.

This, by Alex Newhouse, is entitled "boy's bedroom"

This little number, by Austin Price, carries a moody purple theme throughout.

This joyful piece, by Anthony Roman, problematizes western presumptions about the color of gender.

This, by Ryan Schubert, is entitled "The Henry Ford"

Creator Mat Elfring explains the origins of his pad: "Da Bears.... or Da Broncos, depending where you live."

Bizarrely, it turns out that Mike Mahardy had virtually the same idea.

Which, even more bizarrely, is very similar to Eddie Makuch's design.

This blue pad, by Synthia Weires, sports a dashing yellow hood.

This saccharine design, by Jean-Luc Seipke, needs more pink.

This, by Jess McDonell, is entitled "Two Worms Chat at Night"

This, by Gurk Erdemli, clashes burnt orange against a sky-blue.

This, by Mary Kish, is strangely reminiscent of a Mario level.

Designer Austin Rhee explains: "Cal Pride! Go Bears!"

Artist Joey Yee here has sacrificed everything in the name of maximum shine.

This number, by Stephen Mckone, brings a welcome degree of modesty to GameSpot's collection.

Rob Handerly has opted for a more industrial design.

This, by Miguel Concepcion, is entitled "The Waluigi"
