  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Special Edition News And More Coming Soon

Red Dead Redemption 2 is undoubtedly going to be one of the biggest games of 2018, so it should come as no surprise that it will have at least one special edition. Rockstar Games has announced that it plans to announce the first details on the game's special editions "and more" sometime in June. Rockstar's official wording was "special editions" plural, so it sounds like the studio is planning multiple versions beyond the base edition that will presumably come at a higher price point with a mixture of physical and digital extras.
This announcement came in one line in a Rockstar Newswire post that was focused more on the 19 new screenshots for Red Dead Redemption 2. "Stay tuned for more Red Dead Redemption 2 info next month including first details about the game's special editions and more," Rockstar said.
That's all Rockstar had to say on the subject, so we don't know yet what may be in the special editions of Red Dead Redemption 2 or what they'll cost you. The news, as mentioned, is coming sometime in June. That's when E3 is held. Rockstar doesn't historically have much of a presence at the big-time gaming show, but sometimes they do; in 2014, Rockstar announced the PS4 edition of GTA V on Sony's E3 stage. Intriguingly, Sony and Rockstar have a partnership for Red Dead Redemption 2 that will see PS4 players getting first access to some online content.
As for the "and more" line, that could be in reference to a number of things. We still haven't seen much gameplay from Red Dead Redemption 2, nor have we learned about the game's online component. After the massive, continued critical and commercial success of GTA V's multiplayer mode, GTA Online, it stands to reason that Rockstar would want Red Dead Redemption 2's online mode to be substantial and engaging.
After all, we already know that Rockstar parent company Take-Two wants to have some form of "recurrent consumer spending" i.e. microtransactions, in all of its games, and this would include Red Dead Redemption 2. Whatever the case, we will report back with all the new Red Dead Redemption 2 news as it's announced.
Red Dead Redemption 2 launches on October 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is set in 1899, which is 12 years before the events of the first Red Dead Redemption.
