  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi Video Introduces New Planets

With a new Star Wars movie ready to soar into theaters comes new planets for the franchise to explore. In the latest Star Wars: The Last Jedi featurette, director Rian Johnson and the movie's cast take fans behind the scenes of the film as they create new worlds.
"The first conversations you have are always about what makes something feel like Star Wars," Johnson says as the movie's massive sets are unveiled. John Boyega (Finn) admits, "It makes me feel like I'm on another planet."
Searching out these otherworldly places took the production team around the world. Croatia stood in for new planet Canto Bight, while salt flats in Bolivia were used to film scenes set on the planet Crait--the location of a major battle in The Last Jedi.
The bright red smoke spewing from fighters as they speed across a bright white plain creates an incredibly striking look for the film. It shows the work Johnson has put in to not only making a good Star Wars film, but one that's true to his own visual style.
It's not all new locations for The Last Jedi, though. The film also returns to Ahch-To, the planet where Luke Skywalker was revealed to have been living in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That sent the cast and crew back to the island is Skellig Michael in Ireland. For Johnson, the moment was special as if allowed him to actually film scenes with one of his fictional heroes. "It's really nice to put Luke Skywalker in front of a camera," he says.
"You've never seen anything like this," Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) says. "There's just this magical feeling that you get and you're transported to another world."
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in theaters on December 15.
