Long-lost level restored in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 remaster

A freshly-remastered version of Sega classic Sonic the Hedgehog 2 includes a previously-incomplete level only glimpsed until now.
The Hidden Palace Zone was intended to be a bonus level for players after Sonic had collected all of the game's Chaos Emeralds. But the map was cut during development and left to lie half-finished within the game's code.
The level's remnants were previously only accessible in ROMs of the game, but gamers were able to deduce that the level had been intended to showcase Sonic's transformation into Super Sonic.
