UPDATE 3.30pm: Moscow commuters beware - we've been told that while the Amiibo interacts with the gate's locking mechanism and changes its light to green, the gate itself will still close on you should you try to pass through. Here's a more detailed explanation from Eurogamer reader and Moscow resident Vyacheslav Mostitsky:
"The confusion here is that the gates in Moscow metro seem to be opened all the time, but in fact they're actually closed. You need to place your card on the reader to 'unlock' it and go past them. If you don't, the gates quickly shuts right before you, possibly injuring your private parts.
