Elite: Dangerous is now on Steam for $59.99. The massive sci-fi space combat and exploration sim was previously only available for purchase through the game's website.
In a statement released to Eurogamer, creator Frontier Developments said that there would be "no functional difference" between the two versions. Those who bought the original will be able to play with folks on Steam and vice versa.
Elite: Dangerous will come with all of the usual advantages of owning a game on Steam, including automatic updates and patches, as well as achievements and trading cards. Current Elite: Dangerous owners can add the game to their Steam Library, but for now at least additional support will be limited.
According to a Frontier Developments forum post by executive producer Michael Brookes, adding Elite: Dangerous to steam is a simple process. "Click Games > Add a non-Steam game to my library and add EDLaunch.exe, ordinarily located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\ on a PC."
