  • Rock Band Dev Raises $15 Million

Just a month before the launch of Rock Band 4, Boston-based independent developer Harmonix Music Systems has raised $15 million in equity funding. This was revealed in an SEC filing spotted by the Boston Business Journal. The funding round came from 14 undisclosed investors.
Harmonix has not acknowledged the new funding publicly, and has not commented on the news.
According to Boston Business Journal, "The new equity funding could signal the newest evolution of Harmonix, founded in 1995."
Earlier this summer, Harmonix moved from Cambridge to downtown Boston. This move took place around a year after a corporate shakeup at Harmonix saw CEO Alex Rigopulos move into the role of chief creative officer. Filling his position as CEO is Steve Janiak, formerly the company's VP of operations and publishing.
The Rock Band 4 release date is set for October 6 across Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Harmonix is also working on a new Amplitude game for PlayStation 3 and PS4, which was recently delayed. Looking further out, Harmonix will launch a new crowdfunding campaign for its next game this fall.
