  • Best Comic Book Covers This Week

Every Wednesday is new comic book day and hundreds of books hit local shops and the digital market. While many readers pick books based on the creative teams involved or the stories and characters contained within, every comic is trying its best to grasp the consumer's attention with its cover.
Each week, we highlight some of the best comic book cover art from the past week's releases and discuss the artists involved. Here's what caught our eye this week.

Army of Darkness: Furious Road #1 by Robert Hack

Kicking things off this week is this throwback cover from Robert Hack. There's a real grindhouse poster feel to this piece, and there's a lot going on here to keep the eye wandering.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 by Nick Robles

There sure were a lot of different variant covers for the kick-off issue of Power Rangers. One of the coolest was this one from Nick Robles which has Tommy, the Green Ranger, in an eye-catching action shot. He's probably about to stab some Putties or play his blade like a flute.

Spider-Man #2 by Khary Randolph & Emilio Lopez

Khary Randolph and Emilio Lopez deliver this very stylized version of Miles Morales for the variant cover to Spider-Man #2. Randolph delivers a really cool perspective here, looking up towards the skyscrapers, as Miles swings through the city.

Deadpool #8 by Michael and Laura Allred

Michael and Laura Allred are quite a dynamic duo when it comes to artist and colorist team-ups. Normally, they don't do Deadpool covers, but they really should start doing more. They deliver a humorous cover pretty well, which we're pretty sure is an homage to The Wicker Man.

Darth Vader #17 by Kaare Andrews

Many artists have moved into the digital world. However, this cover of Darth Vader #17 by Kaare Andrews is done with paint and paper. Andrews encapsulates the feel of the Star Wars universe as well as paying homage to Star Wars poster artist Drew Struzan.

Batman Beyond #10 by Dustin Nguyen

DC is celebrating the upcoming release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with a slew of variant covers featuring the titular characters. This week, artist Dustin Nguyen created this great watercolor piece featuring both Batman and Superman for issue #10 of Batman Beyond.

Street Fighter Unlimited #4 by Kandoken

The new Street Fighter Unlimited series from Udon Comics has been delivering some stunning artwork. For issue #4 of the series, Kandoken gives readers an intense-looking Chun-Li. There's subtle background work, making the main focus on the character, and the minimal use of colors, on her outfit, helps create this memorable piece.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 by Dustin Nguyen

There were a lot of Power Rangers variant covers this week; at least 27 that we know of. Once again, here's another watercolor piece from Dustin Nguyen. This cover features the entire Power Rangers team taking on some Putties.

Green Lantern #50 by Doug Mahnke, Sandra Hope & Dinisio Carmine Moreno

Green Lantern hit issue #50 this week and the Batman v Superman variant cover showed off a fierce scene between Batman and Superman. Doug Mahnke, Sandra Hope, & Dinisio Carmine Moreno created this piece, which is one of the best looking covers of the week.

Street Fighter Unlimited #4 by Joe Vriens

Finally, things get a little silly in this variant cover for Street Fighter Unlimited #4 by Joe Vriens. This is obviously a take on the classic Archie covers from the past, but instead of Betty & Veronica fighting over Archie, we see Akuma and Sagat fighting over Ryu.
