  • You Can Play a Surprisingly Decent Game of Tennis on Snapchat

Depending on how old you are, Snapchat is either old news, your favorite app, or a perplexing, difficult-to-use contraption that you eye suspiciously. As part of an ad campaign, it's now being used for something new, playing host to an 8-bit-style tennis game that isn't half-bad.
Serena Williams' Match Point allows you to play out the final moments of each of the 22 matches where she's won a Grand Slam singles title. It's fairly rudimentary; like Wii Sports, your player movement is handled automatically. You're left to serve the ball and then tap the left or right side of the screen to choose where on the court you want to hit it.
You can play this for yourself by searching for ESPN's Discover channel on Snapchat by swiping left from the main screen and then searching for ESPN. You might have to go through a few stories, at which point you'll see something about the game, and you can swipe up to play. If you'd prefer to play on your computer, you can do so at the Gatorade website.
You can play through the first 22 levels now, with another potentially coming on September 10, when Williams goes for a record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam singles title. If she succeeds, a 23rd level will be added to the game that day.
All of this amounts to an ad for Gatorade, but it is nonetheless an interesting experiment and a glimpse into our inevitable Snapchat-dominated future.
