  • Archer to End After Season 10, Creator Says

We learned earlier this week that Adventure Time is coming to an end, and now it's been stated that another beloved animated show, Archer, is also on the way out--but thankfully not very soon.
Archer creator Adam Reed said on this week's Modern Film School Murmur podcast that he actually initially wanted to end the show after Season 8.
"The plan is to end Archer after Season 10. I don't know that anybody has talked about that, but that is definitely my plan--to do 8, 9, and 10 and they're gonna be each shorter seasons of just eight episodes, and then wind it up," he explained, as reported by Deadline. "I was gonna end it after 8, but then I had sort of a brain explosion of a way that I could do three more seasons and really keep my interest up. So the three seasons that are coming up are gonna be pretty different from what has come before, and they're gonna be different from each other."
In June, FX renewed Archer for three more seasons, bringing it up to Season 10, which will debut in early 2017. As Reed stated, each of the next three seasons consisting of only eight episodes means these will be the shortest in the show's history. Every season up to now has had 13 episodes--except for 1 and 7, which both had 10.
Archer features the vocal talents of H. Jon Benjamin as the titular character, Aisha Tyler as Lana Kane, Jessica Walter as Archer's mother, and Chris Parnell as Cyril Figgis.
Despite Archer's popularity, there's been no announcement of a game based on the show. That doesn't mean there hasn't been interest from developers, though. Obsidian Entertainment project director Josh Sawyer talked about Archer's similarities with the studio's Alpha Protocol.
"Alpha Protocol has a very realistic look to it, but it's also kind of silly and comical in a lot of ways," he said. "And a lot of that comedy, I think would fit...obviously, Archer is a great fit for that stuff."
