  • Kong Crushes Logan: Top 10 Movies at the US Box Office This Weekend

Kong: Skull Island was the No. 1 movie at the US box office this weekend, taking in $61 million, according to box office estimates posted by Entertainment Weekly. This is above some estimates, which pegged the movie as making only $50 million for the weekend.
The movie made a reported $11 million more than Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson's 2005 King Kong. That film went on to make $550 million worldwide in theaters.
Some analysts said they believed Fox's Logan would retain its No. 1 position from its opening weekend, but that did not happen; Logan brought in $37.9 million for its second weekend. Logan is still a huge hit, as it has now made $438.3 million worldwide after just 10 days, surpassing the lifetime tallies for X-Men Origins: Wolverine ($373.1 million) and The Wolverine ($414.8 million).
Rounding out the top five were Get Out ($22.1 million), The Shack ($10.1 million), and The Lego Batman Movie ($7.8 million).
