  • Jim Carrey Confirms His Next Role Is A Video Game Movie

As suspected, Jim Carrey will play the evil Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie for Paramount. He confirmed this during a Television Critics Association panel attended by The Hollywood Reporter. The movie will mix CG and live-action, and Carrey confirmed that his character will be live-action.
The movie is currently filming in Canada, and one of the first images from the set emerged recently. It shows off a billboard for the iconic Green Hill Zone from the series. In addition to Carey, the movie features James Marsden (Westworld) and Tika Sumpter (Ride Along).

Regarding the plot, producer Neal Moritz revealed to The Wrap that the movie will follow the buddy cop format, where Sonic teams up with a small town cop (Marsden) to stop Eggman.
The Sonic movie is being directed by Jeff Fowler, whose 2005 animated movie Gopher Broke was nominated for an Oscar. The Sonic movie is his first time directing a full-length film. Deadpool 1 director Tim Miller is producing.
The new Sonic movie is set for release on November 19, 2019; it was originally expected to premiere in 2018 before being delayed.
