  • Meet Ciri, The Witcher 3's Playable Female Character

During The Game Awards earlier this month, CD Projekt Red teased that its upcoming open-world role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would feature female playable character. Now, we know who she is and what she brings to the table in the recently delayed game, now due to launch in May 2015.
"A descendant in a long-lost Elven-blood lineage, Ciri plays an important role in the Witcher lore," CD Projekt Red explains. She's described as a "powerful, living weapon capable of both healing and destroying the world she inhabits."
Ciri has found herself in the crosshairs of the nefarious Wild Hunt, a group of evil riders, so it's up to Witcher 3's main character, Geralt, to find her before they do.
CD Projekt Red adds that introducing a second playable character to The Witcher 3 will "greatly benefit the overall experience." However, the Poland-based studio stresses that Geralt is the game's main focus.
"Adding Ciri as a playable character unlocks quite a few narrative possibilities for the team, though while Ciri is a major character, she is not a playable character in the same way as Geralt. The game is still about him, his story, and how you, as the player, choose to face the choices and encounters in front of you."
In terms of her attributes, CD Projekt Red says Ciri is an "exceptional" swordfighter, who also has "several unique abilities" you can unlock throughout the game. She's also "fast and agile" in the game, and has some form of "mythical power" that CD Projekt Red will discuss further at a later date.

The Witcher 3 release date is May 19, 2015 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
