Mortal Kombat X DLC Discounted as XL Edition Hits PC
Mortal Kombat XL wasn't originally announced for PC, but it released for the platform today. It includes the Mortal Kombat X game, in addition to the two Kombat Packs that were released as DLC. However, if you already own the game, you can get both expansions at a discount.
The standard edition of Mortal Kombat X costs $30 on Steam, while its XL edition goes for $40. Kombat Pack 1 is discounted to $5 and Kombat Pack 2 is on sale for $10, but you can get them at a slightly bigger discount if bought in a bundle for $12.43. The DLC sale lasts until October 10.
Mortal Kombat XL comes to PC with the enhanced net code introduced earlier this year. It also arrives with improved support for widescreen and DSR, as well as multiple fixes for various issues, crashes, and modes. You can see the full list of updates here.
In addition to the new PC version, players received a huge patch today that makes changes and fixes to every single fighter on the roster. It also unlocks all in-game items that were previously only available by playing the mobile game and changes multiple systems, such as running, air attacks, and wake-up attacks.
Initially, Mortal Kombat X on PC had a troubled launch. A patch was announced to make "huge improvements" and "literally [bring] the PC version to parity with the console versions," according to director Ed Boon. However, it resulted in players' save data getting wiped before developer NetherRealm pulled the update. When Mortal Kombat XL was originally revealed, PC was left out of the announced platforms.
Mortal Kombat X on consoles received a score of 8/10 in GameSpot's review. Critic Peter Brown said, "Mortal Kombat X's lesser elements exist outside the most important part of the game: the fighting. A great roster with a wide range of diverse fighting styles and variations gives you plenty to play around with, and the new fighting mechanics add the right amount of depth to nudge Mortal Kombat X ever higher on the list of respectable fighting games."
