  • Pokemon Go Update Adds New Notification Options for "Plus" Accessory

A new update for Pokemon Go launched this week, adding new functionality for the Plus accessory.
With the update applied, players now have multiple notification modes to choose from. In short, you will be able to choose if you want to receive alerts for only Pokemon, Poke Stops, or both. Scanning for both will remain the default setting; in theory this should help you catch as many Pokemon and collect as many Poke Balls, which are found at Poke Stops, as possible. But if you only want to search for one or the other, now you can.
Additionally, the Pokemon Go update allows you to choose to not receive any notifications at all if you have a buddy Pokemon selected. In this case, only the distance of your travels will be recorded. Finally, the update makes it so Plus continues to be paired with the game if you elect to use the app, rather than the accessory, during Pokemon and Gym encounters.
These are welcome-sounding changes, but Pokemon Go players using the Plus accessory will likely hope that developer Niantic doesn't stop here. Currently, the accessory does not alert you to Pokemon you haven't come across before; presumably, this could be addressed in a future update.
Plus is an accessory that you wear. It lights up and buzzes when a Pokemon is close by and when you pass a Poke Stop. For more on the device, which can be hard to find, check out GameSpot's guide to the accessory.
This is just the latest Pokemon Go update. One that came out last week added a new catch bonus system and a tweak to Gym training so that you can bring six Pokemon to battle.
In other news about Pokemon Go, developers behind Pokemon Sun and Moon told GameSpot that functionality between the 3DS game and the mobile app is "still on the table."
