  • Samsung's 4G LTE Galaxy Camera with Jelly Bean Lands at Verizon on December 13

Mark you calendars if you're interested in owning what Samsung claims is the world's first 4G LTE camera on Big Red. Otherwise known as the Galaxy Camera, Samsung's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-powered point-and-shoot will be available at Verizon Wireless on December 13 for $550. That's low-end DSLR territory, but is it worth it? Let's have a look at some of the features the Galaxy Camera brings to the table.
Obviously the main selling point is that it sports a 4G LTE radio, which when combined with Jelly Bean, allows users to shoot, edit, and share images and video without having to be tethered to a desktop or notebook. It has a 4.8-inch HD Super Clear LCD touchscreen and offers full access to Android apps from the Google Play store (think Instagram as opposed to Angry Birds). Verizon says subscribers can add the Galaxy Camera to their Share Everything account for $5 per month (promotional price).
"Social media enthusiasts will be able to connect to their accounts through their camera and upload pictures and videos of outings, concerts and parties as they happen," Verizon says. "Shutterbugs and bloggers who post images on their sites will be able to upload photos over 4G LTE instead of waiting to use their computers at home."
Outside of media sharing, the Galaxy Camera features a 21X optical zoom lens (23-483mm f/2.8-5.9 equivalent), 16MP CMOS sensor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage flanked by a microSD card slot, 1.4GHZ quad-core Cortex A9 processor with Mali 400MP GPU, and various other odds and ends.
The Galaxy Camera comes in two color options: Cobalt Black (exclusive to Verizon) and White. It's already available at AT&T, where it sells for $50 less ($500), albeit adding it to AT&T's Mobile Share plan runs $10 per month, twice as much as Verizon's promotional pricing.
