Cross-platform support for AcerCloud means you can move files seamlessly between PC and mobile.Acer on Monday announced cross-platform support for AcerCloud, the company's cloud-based file sharing and media management service that's free to use. Up to this point, AcerCloud only supported Windows-based PCs, but it now adds Android and iOS to the fold, giving users an easy way to move and manage files on multiple platforms via Wi-Fi or cellular.
"With AcerCloud, Acer now supports free file sharing between all of the key mobile devices, adding tremendous value to Acer customers," said Acer President, Jim Wong. "AcerCloud greatly simplifies our customers’ ability to manage all of their digital assets across all of their devices, regardless of platform."
A feature called AcerCloud Docs allows users to push their Microsoft Office documents to any of their Windows, Android, or iOS devices. If you edit a file on a Samsung Galaxy S III, for example, it will be available for download and viewing from your iPad or desktop PC. These files are synced at AcerCloud and available for 30 days from the time they were modified.
Acer's PicStream feature does the same thing for pics. Snap a photo on your smartphone or tablet and then view it on your PC. PicStream also has a 30-day expiration from the day the pictures were taken. There are no limits for storage capacity.
The revamped AcerCloud service will be available later this month and will also come bundled on all Acer consumer PCs starting in the second quarter of 2013.
