Most of you look at the pictures posted here, and go that’s terrible and hmm and ha, but at the end of the day, will you actually do anything about it?
No, your going to move on to something else like a game of RtcW and forget all about it.
If you really feel that strongly about it, I subject you go do something like join the peace core, put on your bullet proof jacket and stand in front of those tanks waving a white flag and say “Stop” and proceed to get a bullet up your ass!

I prefer to think that way too Tam. Im not only a Dutchman, but im alsso a human being, who lives on this planet. And in the last few years, like Tam already said: I cant find much to be proud of. Politican aren't always as good as they used to be. The Dutch ones s^ck really hard (to say it out loud). They formed a parlement a couple of months ago, and already there are lots of people who complain about them. Look.......politicans work the things out like they think its the best way to work it out, but lots of people dont like it the way they do that......

Chuck.. About my earlier post. Of course American people are proud to be part of their own country, and thats good. But its always like this: When an American citizen sees a picture of a man who was shot by soldiers, like in this case, then they say: In times like these, and when I see a picture like this one, then Im proud to be an American. Then I think: Ok ok wait wait......Im proud to be a Dutchman too, but not especially in this case. Ok I see a dead man on this pic, but why should I be extra proud to be a citizen of my own country when I see such a picture.
Thats what I dont get, please explain me..

I agree Jesp. I see a picture like this, and it doesnt make me proud at all. Doesnt make me proud of anything, because this isnt a Israel/Palestinian problem, nor an American problem, Australian problem... Its a humanitarian problem.

Pictures like this to me symbolize the propoganda machine in action. Ive followed recent events in Iraq closely, as I have 2 very close friends still over there, who keep me up to date through emails and letters as to what is really happening, what they see, and what they are told... and I can tell you, its very different to what the media tells us.
Ive also encountered the medias power play on an even more personal level. My Dad lives in Indonesia and maybe you didnt hear much about the war in East Timor over there a few years back that Australia got involved in, but I talked to my Dad on the phone one night, and I told him I was worried for his safety as we were being shown on TV footage of Indonesians burning the Australian Flag. He laughed, and told me that they werent being shown that on the news there, but were being shown footage of Australians burning the Indonesian Flag.
So, to me, pictures like this, while horrible and ghastly, dont tell me enough of the story to really believe either way. Ive learnt that unless I experience it or witness it first hand, what the media tells me is rubbish in most cases.
Either way, everyday is a sad day in this world, for someone, somewhere.

If you need to be proud than be proud of being a thinking creature which is able to decide autonomous - at every moment!

Wise words there Tam, and you're right. There isnt a day that nobody is sad. Look at countries like Afghanistan or Iraq. The people over there live in true poorness and because of the wars, there are many more wounded people as normal. The hospitals can't take that much people, because they are poor too and can't afford better equipment.
I know the same thing that you know Tam, about the things in those countries and how different they are from how the journalists tell us. I have known somebody too who went to the war in Indonesia and he wrote nearly the same thing in one of those letters he sent to me. We in Holland saw also some Indonesian guys who were burning the Australian flag, and he wrote me the same thing your father told you Tam.
In times of war, when I see one of those Dutch journlists on the television, I harly believe the story he tells us because most of the time the things are different from his words, and I know that for sure now.
When the peace returns to this world is very unsure, but when you think peacefull with your heart, that moment will come closer and closer.

I am not just stating American's Jesper; I am stating that everyone that lives in a country that doesn't have these kinds of things happen in their country is proud to live that country. Don't get me wrong people are shot that are innocent in America. The British are proud of it the Americans are proud of it and so are a lot of other countries that don't have this kind of violence. Does that mean that if you take a movie of a shoot out with police officers that you couldn't make it into stills and possibly have it look like the pictures in this post, sure you could. One of the rudest awakenings that you get growing up is that things in the world are not as they seem. The people controlling the media have there own political agenda and are very connected in the governments of the world, democratic societies that is.) You will see what they want you to see, and usually nothing more.
As far as being extra proud to be a citizen of your country when you see a picture like that, well because you feel a responsibility to your country to make sure those things don't happen. You feel a sense of pride knowing that if it does happen then the person that did the act will be brought to justice if it is warranted. Look at Rodney King in the US. The law was changed and people were tried twice for the same case. That just didn't happen the way it did before that incident. American's wanted, had, to see justice. So they got it. Some Americans felt better after the second trial that's why it happened. In a lot of countries in this world the person that did the shooting would be at least questioned about the shooting. Sometimes the internet isn't always good, pictures are used to cloud the minds of people with crap that is staged to make you think about it a certain way. Humans can be programmed also. Jesper this is not a question that has a definitive answer, in 2 more generations when our kids are used to a global chat room with live video then we will be able to explain it better but right now cultures are still rather diverse, and the gaps between us are rather large for me to be able to explain this in one post. As you go though life you view will change. For better or for the worse, what you have to realize is that you control how that view affects you. Don’t let an add or a picture or another person do that to much. Try to look at things objectively and always in a positive way. It's easy enough to see things negatively; the news in America is sensationalized so good stuff is promoted here enough in my viewpoint.
