Eurogamer's week-long coverage of PlayStation's 30th anniversary begins today with a very special interview: an extended conversation looking back behind the scenes at PlayStation's original launch, how the brand became a breakout success despite established competition, its "Icarus moment" in the PS3 era, and then its ongoing battle for industry dominance.
The Grand Theft Auto Definitive Editions were a mixed bag. They largely played well, but the graphical overhaul they received included low-quality AI-upscaled art, substandard models and awkward use of ancient animation data. Players also often levied one key aesthetic criticism: that the remasters didn't align closely enough with the originals in terms of lighting and colour, with a less stylised look. That's all set to change with patch six, which promises a new classic lighting mode and myriad other fixes - but does it do the job, and how have the other changes affected the final product?
A quick heads up for those looking to dive into Infinity Nikki on release, if you want to pre-load the game on PS5 before launch you have to pay for an early access package.
There's a line at the beginning of the Dragon Age: The Veilguard art book, in an introduction by art director Matt Rhodes, where he says there was more artwork created for The Veilguard than all other Dragon Age games combined - and possibly more than the Mass Effect trilogy combined as well. Extraordinary! But then, the fourth Dragon Age game project has been extraordinary for BioWare in many ways.
The weather was typically unsettled in May 1994. Midway through my year-six school trip to the Isle of Wight we'd gone on a day trip to Blackgang Chine - a kind of magical theme park of sorts where we were told Queen Mary in 1920 had her hat knocked off by a massive whale's jaw bone. Anyway, that's not important. We'd come inside to a cafe area as it had started to rain. In this cafe I have two of my most vivid childhood memories: hot cinnamon flavoured hard round sweets and a Virtua Fighter arcade cabinet. As a young lad who'd essentially learned to read and write largely off the back of Mean Machines SEGA magazine, you can imagine my excitement.
When Stalker 2, from Ukrainian developer GSC Game World, was released last month after multiple delays, it sold exceptionally well but received a mixed reaction from critics due mainly to issues with its performance and bugs.
