      • Leon Kennedy of the great hair and lovely jacket fame was once considered to be the protagonist of Resident Evil Requiem, however he is simply too much of a bad ass to be the main focus of a Resi game right now.

        • Monster Hunter Wilds is not having a particularly good time of it over on Steam; thanks to ongoing performance issues and a perceived lack of meaningful content updates, players numbers are routinely dipping below those of the now seven-year-old Monster Hunter World, and recent reviews have tipped the game into Overwhelmingly Negative territory. Amid all this, Capcom has now outlined Monster Hunter Wilds' next free Title Update, but whether it'll do enough to shift player sentiment remains to be seen.

            • Just days after barreling through the 1m sales barrier, Peak - the daft co-op climbing game from developer Landcrab - has reached another impressive milestone. It's now sold over 2m copies, and Landcrab is celebrating the occasion by talking a little about its plans for future updates.

                  • When Nintendo fully revealed Switch 2, it also announced the existence of 'Switch 2 Editions' - enhanced versions of existing games, upgraded for the new hardware. Charging for this has been viewed as somewhat controversial but the fact is that in addition to paid upgrades, Nintendo has also released a range of free patches that deliver game-changing improvements. We've already talked about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but that's just the beginning of the story: key games such as Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario 3D World and Bowser's Fury along with Splatoon 3 are vastly improved. If you've missed these games, didn't complete them in the first place, or just want to experience them again, we highly recommend doing so on Nintendo's new consoles.

                      • My time at university is bookended by moments that changed my idea of what games could be. When I started my first year, I saw Tomb Raider running on an upside-down PS1 in someone's dorm and I was stunned and sort of disconcerted. My 2D gaming mind had no idea how to understand a game that seemed so comfortable in three dimensions, but which also - after years of seeing increasingly refined pixel art - seemed so comfortable with being so ragged. The gaps in Lara's polygonal joints. The clipping of 3D surfaces. The way the polygons around the sides of the screen sometimes disappeared giving the image the perforated edge of a postage stamp. Was this a step forward or a step back?
