  • It would be silly if Wizards of the Coast, the brilliantly named company in charge of Dungeons & Dragons, didn't do a follow-up to Baldur's Gate 3, given the barnstorming success that game has enjoyed - and the wonders it's done for the D&D brand. Indeed Hasbro, the owner of Wizards, has talked quite openly about wanting a successor before, which is why it's no surprise to hear Wizards president John Hight tell The Game Business just the other day that, "Baldur's Gate [3] is an incredible game, and of course we're going to do a successor." But it begs the bigger question of who will make it.

        • When you think of skateboarding games, what is the first thing you think of? For me, it's the music - whether it was being introduced to the impeccable drum work of Josh Freese in The Vandals' Euro-Barge on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1, trying to get my voice as high as 3 Inches of Blood's singer in Deadly Sinners in Tony Hawk's Underground 2, or learning how to play Jack White's part in Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine after hearing it in Skate, music is an integral part of these games.

          • Hello and welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've been playing. This week, we're making a slight change in an effort to get you a wider view of what the team - the entire team - has been playing. Expect to read more opinions on what we've been playing, but slightly shorter entries so we can fit them all in.

            • Hurtle back through space and time with me, will you, to my living room sofa in 2005. Hunched over, Ork-like and sallow, I used to balance my laptop on one of those nesting coffee tables that was a tiny bit too small, a squeaky little bluetooth travel mouse on the even smaller one beside it. It got so uncomfortable at one point I had to give up on the luxury of my squishy wrist-pad mouse mat, and just wedge a whole cushion under my arm instead. All that for another few minutes running my army around the corners of the map, looking for the final building to demolish, any straggling xenos I'd yet to expunge.

              • It's been 22 years since the last home console F-Zero game (not counting the handheld spin-offs and 2023's F-Zero 99), but with the launch of Nintendo's Switch 2 we finally got a chance to revisit the GameCube's outstanding F-Zero GX. Despite some wonky controls, it's a game that still stands up today. No wonder Nintendo hasn't attempted to better it.

                      • Most of us don't decide our lifelong-career when we're nine years old - but then again, most of us aren't Tony Hawk. Born in San Diego, California in 1968, an elementary school age Tony was first drawn to skating while watching his 21-year-old brother. "I was nine years old and my older brother was skating in the alleyway," Hawk recalls of the first time he saw a board, " I asked him if I could ride it and he said, yeah, but you can only ride that board over there - and his old board became my first skateboard."

                        • At first blush, it'd be easy to take Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days as just another third-person action shooter of the Xbox 360 era - a period absolutely replete with such games. To be honest, that description is certainly true of its predecessor - a game probably now more broadly remembered for its role in one of games media's largest scandals. But the sequel is something more - something special, unique, and worth remembering.
