I think its healthy for the young people of todays World to have an interest in the politics of their own countries, and of others. Hopefully this will one day make for a better future for our children in generations to come, as I like to believe we learn from our mistakes.
If we are to have nothing to do with our governments, why do we hold democracy so high in regard?

And Mel, Your original statement read as if you were calling people who oppose your governments actions as ignorant, now that you have explained that you were referring to the soldiers who tortured Iraqis it makes better sense.

Oops Mel, sorry that I misunderstood you're meaning of 'ignorant' people, I really thought you meant us ..
But again I have to say I was never bashing your coutry, I'm just trying to crush your government with good arguments, ghehehe.
I have debates on this subject every week with my historyclass, and every day I read like 15 full pages of this subject to get to know more and more about this.
Problem is a lot of ''information'' on this subject is subjective, and all the opinions on it are varied.
I don't think it's too hard to choose a side singleminded, while not knowing anything about it.
But I do think that if people jump into the subject more and really try to find out the truth and their own true feelings, you can really make this world a better place.
I'm really trying to express my feelings about this thing, and I hope some people (ahummm *coughs*slyfi *coughs*) would learn to respect it a bit more and if they won't, then just beat it.. (Michael Jackson style)
And I think Hans last comment was just dang stupid (IMHO)
Because if no one would care about anything that happens on this planet, the governments could do whatever they like!
Sorry to say this Hans, but I think sometimes people need to get back to the real world, which is a thing that I had to learn the harsh way.
Once again Mel, I apologise for the misunderstanding, but you also need to accept that I want to express my opnion about your government..

As Samawah: In southern Iraq, one of the Ducht soldiers died by a grenade thrown by an Iraqi citizen. They threw the grenade while they were driving a scooter. An other soldier (20 y/o) is badly wounded. The dead soldier is an 36 y/o Sergeant from Franeker (Friesland). He died at the battlefield-hospital. This is the first time, a Dutch soldier dies.

This is what teletext said in Holland, I think its sad that he died, but tere are lots of Americans, Iraqis and English soldiers who have died......well.....I dont know what to say anymore
